Golden Rule #10 of the Ten Golden Rules of Internet
Marketing is “Lead the Trends”. The hot strategies
and tactics of online marketing are changing all
the time and we monitor what’s working for our
clients and the industry at large. Two of the
hot trends we’re watching are podcasts and Second
Life.
The ‘Tipping Point’ for me with podcasts was
at the Commission Junction affiliate trade show.
I was introduced to someone at the show and he
said “Jay Berkowitz, I know you, you’re a legend,
you are on my iPod.” He had downloaded a show
we were on for WebmasterRadio.FM. You can hear
a recent podcast we did with a Press release in
the link on our home page www.TenGoldenRules.com
. PR podcasts are a new service available form
PR Web with their $200 web press releases.
Personally, I am enjoying adding podcasts to
my iPod. It is easy and free. In the iTunes store
just click on podcasts and search a topic. With
one click you can subscribe to a podcast and each
week the new shows update to your iPod automatically.
I set my iPod to save the five most recent shows
from each broadcaster.
The ‘Podfather’ Adam Curry is a former MTV VJ
and one of the founding podcasters, he just celebrated
his 500th podcast. I am listening to The Business
Week Podcasts, Joseph Jaffe’s excellent Across
the Sound, CC Chapman’s informative Managing the
Gray, and The Six Pixels of Separation the Twist
Image Podcast. I am also enjoying a dance music
podcast called Electronic Groove featuring one
hour mixes by DJ’s from around the world.
Get a Second Life!
Second Life is the latest 'hot' internet marketing
strategy and I predict this will be the next HUGE
opportunity in the internet world. In my first
visit to Second Life I was recruited for a speaking
engagement! I will be purchasing land and Ten
Golden Rules is developing projects for this exciting
new space.
Second Life is a virtual world developed by a
company called Linden Labs. In Second Life you
can create your own persona and travel through
virtual islands. You can also buy virtual land,
from Linden Labs; you can receive virtual gifts,
listen to live music, attend meetings and events
and conduct eCommerce using Linden dollars which
have real world value. Anshe Chung a Second Life
real estate investor and innovator has declared
herself the first person to become a real world
millionaire through transactions made in Second
Life.

Several companies have set up business in Second
Life including Reebok, IBM, Dell and Wells Fargo
as well as agencies The Electric Sheep Company,
Edelman and Crayon. Leanne Prescott from Hitwise
reported that Internet searches for 'second life'
recently shot up 73%, and visits to the Second
Life website were up 219%. Watch for Ten Golden
Rules in Second Life in 2007!
