One service that Ten Golden Rules offers that almost always gets our clients top results in the natural search rankings is the writing and posting of Web Optimized Press Releases. Few companies understand how to use press releases to generate traffic, as well as the value of these press releases. Google especially seems to push a well optimized on-line press release to the top of the search engines and many articles stay at the top of the search results over an extended period of time, which can help drive traffic to the website.
On the Ten Golden Rules blog, almost on a weekly basis we have offered some tips and tricks on how to use press releases, and distribution to press release services to generate website traffic. Since many of you do not subscribe or read our blog, I thought a summary of some of our top tips to online press releases would be beneficial:
- Press Releases are fresh content. The search engine spiders love new content on a website. It gets them wanting to come back to your site more often and look for additional copy. Here are three of our favorite distribution press release services.
- Business Wire – One of the leaders in commercial distribution for privately held and publically traded companies. Different pricing structure and different distribution options allows you to target specific media by location and trades.
- PR Newswire – Another leader in commercial distribution, with pricing higher than other distribution services.
- PRWeb – Great for distribution at lowest rates, could be compared to commercial distributors and offers some of the same great features for SEO.
- Having an image next to your on-line press releases does not currently help search engine rankings, but that does not mean that won’t change – and it does draw the eye. So, if you have an image that is appropriate, go ahead and include.
- Most news sites, such as Google News only visit your URL once, so it does you no good to go back and add images to all of your old press releases from the previous tip.
- Make sure your press releases are included in your site map so the search engine spiders can find them easier.
- Make sure you ping your press release on your site before you send it for distribution to press release services. If you have a company blog, comment on your press release and link to it. Otherwise use digg, del.icio.us or any of the numerous websites out there.

Hopefully these tips were helpful on how to use press releases to generate traffic. Make sure you subscribe to our blog to get other tips and tricks to successful online marketing.
