Click. Call. Convert. Client: The New Rules for Winning More Cases from Google

Google search, Ai Overviews, Local Services Ads, and Pay-Per-Click advertising are all evolving at an incredible pace. But one thing hasn’t changed: when someone needs a lawyer, they turn to Google looking for answers—and the firms that make it easiest to connect are the ones that win the case.
That was the focus of our latest Ten Golden Rules Live event, where we explored how law firms can maximize every stage of the client journey—from the first Google search to the first phone call, from consultation to signed client. While Google continues to introduce new Ai features and advertising options, the fundamentals of successful legal marketing remain remarkably consistent: be visible, respond quickly, and convert every opportunity.
One of the biggest takeaways was the continued importance of Google Local Services Ads (LSAs). For many firms, LSAs remain the fastest way to appear at the very top of Google’s search results while generating qualified phone calls instead of just website traffic. But simply turning on LSAs isn’t enough. The firms seeing the greatest success answer every call immediately, respond to messages within minutes, consistently earn new Google Reviews, and actively manage their campaigns. Great marketing begins with great responsiveness.
We also spent considerable time discussing Google Ads and why firms should stop measuring success by clicks alone. Modern PPC campaigns provide incredible insight into what is—and isn’t—working. The best-performing firms constantly test headlines, keywords, landing pages, and calls to action while measuring what ultimately matters: cost per lead, cost per signed client, and return on investment. Data-driven marketing continues to outperform guesswork every time.
Another recurring theme was website conversion. Too many law firm websites still ask visitors to complete lengthy forms before making contact. Today’s highest-performing firms make it easy for prospective clients to call immediately, especially on mobile devices where most legal searches now begin. Sometimes the biggest increase in signed cases doesn’t come from spending more on advertising—it comes from making it easier for prospective clients to reach you.
Of course, no discussion about Google would be complete without talking about Ai. Google’s Ai Overviews are changing how information is presented, but they’re also creating new opportunities. Firms that consistently publish helpful blogs, educational videos, FAQs, and content that answers real client questions are becoming trusted sources for both Google Search and Ai-generated results. Rather than replacing SEO, Ai is rewarding firms that demonstrate expertise and provide the best answers.
Some of the top strategies discussed included:
- Using Google Local Services Ads to generate qualified phone calls
- Measuring success by signed clients instead of clicks and impressions
- Optimizing Google Ads through continuous testing and conversion tracking
- Designing websites that encourage immediate phone calls
- Creating educational content that performs well in both Google Search and Ai Overviews
- Repurposing videos and FAQs across your website, Google Business Profile, YouTube, and social media
- Tracking every stage of the journey from click to call, conversion, and signed client
Perhaps the biggest lesson from the event is that Google’s newest technologies don’t replace great marketing—they amplify it. Every helpful blog builds authority. Every educational video answers a question someone is searching for. Every Google Review builds trust. And every improvement to your intake process increases the value of every marketing dollar you spend.
Technology will continue to evolve, but the firms that combine exceptional marketing, outstanding responsiveness, and valuable educational content will continue to outperform the competition.
