Is Google Penalizing Your Website?

Is Google Penalizing Your Website?

There’s a simple answer to this question. Register with Google’s Webmaster Tools and find out. As early as 2005, Google has been sending out email notifications to notify webmasters of Google penalties for violating their Webmaster Guidelines.

Back in May 2007, the service was temporarily suspended because spammers were spoofing Google penalty notifications. However, webmasters will be happy to find out that Google announced on Wednesday that they’re renewing the penalty notification service. Google’s quality team does warn that they will not send any attachments with the penalty notification so if you receive a notification with one, it’s spam.

From my experience, one of the best ways to learn about what gets a site penalized in Google, or any other search engine, is first hand knowledge. Because the search engines do not really want you to learn exactly how to rank sites, SEOs have had to learn from experience what works and what doesn't. Research in this field involves treating the search engines as black boxes affecting an outcome – controlling the input, observing the output.
